Its intended use is for monitoring a sleeping person who has a risk of tonic-clonic seizures. It is the first alarm that detects and distinguishes strong muscle spasms, such as those associated with tonic-clonic seizures, from normal movements, but also detects the presence and absence of micro-movements caused by a persons breathing and heart beat. Not only does it give a notification to a caregiver when the person has the clonic phase of a tonic-clonic seizure but also when the person leaves the bed (feature can be disabled). Available outside the USA/Canada only. If you reside in the USA or Canada please see Movement Monitor
The Emfit tonic-clonic seizure monitor consists of two main components; a flexible and durable bed sensor (L-4060SL) placed under the mattress and a bed-side monitor (D-1090-2G) with sophisticated embedded software. Together they detect the micro-movements of a person lying on the bed - even the heart beat and breathing, and the faster movements such as muscle spasms when person has a tonic-clonic seizure. There are no particular weight limits and the system is sensitive enough for small children.
The control unit can be placed next to the bed or on the wall using the included fastening bracket. The new 2nd generation monitor is now operated with 2 pcs AA size 1,5 V batteries. An optional, medical grade AC adapter is also available.
“This morning the monitor saved my son's life. We were alerted in the early hours of the morning that he was in the throes of a major status seizure. It was so early we would have never known he was having an issue - he could have easily aspirated as he had vomited during the seizure. We are so thankful that we were able to get one of your monitors and forever grateful. We can sleep easily for the first time in 12 years!”
